USB flash drives are becoming a permanent member of the beginning of the school year supply list. The little device is handy for saving all your files and passing them from one computer to another.
But the problem is that they're rarely used in the classroom, are lost easily, and relatively time consuming for saving files and transferring them to another computer. Also, you have to physically be close to the computers you want to transfer the files between.
This is where DropBox saves the day. It allows users to save files in the cloud so they can be accessed by any computer. Also, files can be placed in a specific folder so work can be collected in one easy place by users who are not in the same classroom, are at home, in another building, or across the country.
Students are able to complete assignments, save them to DropBox, and access the file from any computer. The assignment can also be 'dropped' to a Public folder so that anyone with a link can view or add to the folder.
Teachers can collect assignments from students inside their Public folder. No more dealing with lost USB drives or limitations on handing in work because a student is absent or not in the room.
