Pinterest is like a bulletin board for the Internet, where users collect images, videos, and 'stuff' they're interested in from around the web. Students and teachers can use Pinterest to complete assignments, share interests outside of school, and find others interested in similar 'stuff.'
When using Pinterest to complete assignments, students can take or find pictures related to a topic being studied and pin them. Whether it's Shakespeare, Planets, or President Obama, students collect images and videos and pin them in one place. A classroom can setup one Pinterest page, or each student. Everyone can share what they've found with others outside the classroom, and search other Pinterest pages for more images and videos.
At the start of school everything can be new, and sometimes scary. Some students thrive in this environment, while others shy away. Pinterest is one way of sharing what you like so that others have an idea of who you are without having to stand up in front of a classroom. Students can find common interests and a friend they may not have introduced them-self to.
Schools are most often centered around the core subjects (science, math, social studies, language arts), PE, and depending on budgets and staff, classes like Band, Foreign language, and Home Economics. What does a student interested in Computer Programming, Automobile repair, Carpentry, Horse training, Gardening, and many other areas do? They find others on Pinterest that share common interests and ideas and learn from one another.
