Bulletin boards are synonymous with classrooms. Teachers love to 'pin' things to the wall so all students can see. The usual suspects line the walls; posters, pictures, rules, projects, quizzes and tests with good grades, and more.
Pinterest is way for teachers to 'Pin' stuff they like from the Internet. This includes images, videos, websites, stories, and more. This can be effective in the classroom because so many students spend a lot of their time Online. With lots of media and marketing drawing students to sites that aren't appropriate, this site allows teachers to collect stuff from the Internet that's more appropriate.
Teachers can use Pinterest to collect images and videos for the first week of school that highlight some of the topics and activities students can expect to study throughout the coming year. They could also create a Pinterest wall for specific topics or units and share the link when the time arrives to study it.
Teachers have the ability to collect video tutorials that help students learn to use tools and technologies they'll need during the year, including; creating a Blog Site, using Evernote, sharing a Googe Doc, or making a good video to upload to Vimeo.
Teachers can also get students in on the act by getting them to 'Pin' things to the class page. If students are browsing the Internet and notice a great image or video that goes along with the current unit of study, they can 'Pin' it to the class site so all students have the opportunity to view it.
Pinterest allows teachers to point students in the right direction when it comes to navigating the web.
