Top 11 from '11: #6- Blogger for Administrators

Administrators are building leaders. They're responsible for setting the tone, expectations, and guidelines for all conduct inside a school. They also need to be aware of what happens outside the classroom walls because it inevitably makes its way in.

Technology and the Internet is no different. What teachers and students do on a computer inside the school can bring the outside world in. If an administrator doesn't understand technology and digital content in the same manner as teachers, and particularly students, than it can be difficult to lead.

Blogger is one tool for administrators to stay on top of the digital landscape. Administrators can search for, and connect with, other principals to hear stories and share resources for faster learning and deeper understanding.

Administrators can also use Blogger to:
  • Research new tech trends and tools
  • Keep up to date on cyber etiquette and bullying
  • Listen for new filtering techniques, but keep resources as open as possible
  • Read and/or write articles that contribute to the advancement of technology/blogging in education
  • Start discussions on topics that excite learners and challenge paradigms
  • Use and embed media that highlight and broadcast creative work by teachers and students
  • Communicate with people inside and outside of the school

There are far more ways in which Blogger can add understanding to an administrator and a school. Blogger appear as a simple online journal, but for an administrator it's a portal into other schools and the thoughts and ideas of other administrators. It's the chance to become a technology leader instead of a nervous and ignorant technology restrainer.
