The company was created in 2004 by Ludicorp, but acquired by Yahoo! in 2005. Flickr has become one of the most popular sites for hosting images for bloggers and recently totaled 51 million in registered users.
As of August 2011, there are more than 6 billion images on the Flickr website. All of which can be accessed without creating an account, but a user will need to do so in order to upload.
Flickr claims to be the best online photo management and sharing application in the world. They have 2 goals:
- They want to help people make their photos available to the people who matter to them.
- They want to enable new ways of organizing photos and videos.
