This type of weather makes me want to close my eyes, point my face toward the breeze and enjoy the calm serenity. But, how often do we do that with everything else in life? As teachers do we wait until summer when the school year is out and students are on vacation? During the year do continue to tell yourself things like, "I can't wait for the weekend so I can 'get away' and relax."
If all we do is tell ourselves to wait until _________ (fill in the blank), are we ever enjoying what is happening now? I would also ask is life is out of balance. Is work taking up too much of your time, energy, and passion. And what is the job you're performing is great, but you just don't take the time to see it,or feel it. You don't take the time to close your eyes and let the good moments sink in.
Maybe, this summer is a good time to re-evaluate what you want life to be. Michael Hyatt, a well known blogger and chairman of Thomas Nelson Publishing (the largest Christian book publisher in the world) says that working more than 55 hours a week is too much. When you do that you take away from other areas of life. And if you don't address the other areas, they will break.
Have other areas of your life been broken? How can we fix them? First, identify what the areas are. I brake my life into 7 areas. (1) Spiritual (2) Family (3) Social (4) Intellectual (5) Physical (6) Financial (7) Career. Notice, career is the last on the list.
All of the files on my computer are organized into these 7 areas. That way I can easily keep track of how much information I have, and think about, on a regular basis. When one area gets thinner than another, or the files haven't been updated in the longest period of time, it's a reminder to refocus life to reflect what's important.
What's important to you? What areas would you have? Would you have more or less than 7? What order would have them in? Take the time to prioritize them, this is your life and you should be more intentional about how you spend it. Just as Zig Zigglar says, "Those who aim at nothing hit it every time." What are you aiming at? What do you want to accomplish?
