Mahara is a tool administrators can use to allow teachers, parents, and other students to each one another. Mahara is an ePortfolio and Social Networking software. It's open source and open principle so administrators can customize it to fit the needs of the school and community.
If a school already has, or considers having, a Moodle site then Mahara can be accessed through the same login. This gives the school, and teachers, the ability to give each student their own Mahara page that links to the school's Moodle page.
Students have the ability to archive all of their work through Mahara. If they've started early, its possible for a student to keep all their work from kindergarten to high school graduation and beyond. With the ability to create Social Networks around groups, blogs, and forums, students can share each other's work and ideas to make learning more interactive.
