Weebly

According to their site, Weebly is a San Francisco, California based company that began in 2006 with a mission to help people put together their own website quickly and easily. Since then, more than 3 million people have created their own personal website and/or blog to establish a web presence for business, weddings, classrooms, churches, artistic portfolios and much more.

The year 2007 was big for the company. After joining a seed funding program called Y Combinator to expand operations, Weebly was named one of Time's 50 Best Websites of 2007. The company has continued to improve it's features and ease of use.

Weebly is backed and supported by some of the most talented and respected members of Silicon Valley; Ron Conway of Baseline Ventures (original investor in Google), Mike Maples, Aydin Senkut, Rajeev Motawani and Paul Buchheit (Creator of Gmail).

There are plenty of articles and positive write-ups on Weebly from the biggest names in journalism and technology. You can read some of them from:

The site also features a Weebly for Education page perfect for creating websites, student portfolios, and websites for assigned projects. The drag & drop interface makes it simple for students use and appropriate for all age groups. It allows students to express themselves creatively using a variety of multimedia too, all within a protected environment that the teacher controls.

Weebly offers teachers an account with 40 student sites that are password protected and hosted completely free. If additional accounts are needed, they can be purchased for $10 per 10 accounts.

Although most features are free from Weebly, users may purchase a Weebly Pro account to gain access to additional tools and expanded file storage. To help keep many features free and education prices to a minimum, the folks at Weebly appreciate the support that comes with purchasing a pro account, which they consider a donation to their cause.
