Google+ in the Classroom

Google+ may be one of the best tools for use in the classroom that has come along in some time. With new teaching and learning approaches such as Project Based Learning (PBL) and the Flipped Classroom, Google+ makes both of them work seamlessly in any classroom.

Students need to communicate, collaborate, and take action to accomplish academic goals in the classroom. They need tools that help organize large amounts of information, share it quickly with others, and have it available anytime and anywhere

Google+ allows all of this to happen. Teachers have the option of sharing information with individual students, teams working together, or the entire class. Students have the chance to ask questions directly to the teacher, specific team members, the entire classroom, their grade level, the entire school, or the community. Google+ plus gives the user complete control over who and when they communicate with.

Coupled with a Google Apps account, teachers and students have all the tools they need to be successful. Gmail is a full-featured Messaging system that also includes Chat, Calendar, Search, Tasks, Talk, and more. Google Docs saves all Word, Spreadsheet, Forms, and Presentation Slide documents, which can be shared and collaborated on at anytime and anywhere with a simple click. Sites are Google's version of easy website creation where all digital information can be placed and shared with the world. Blogger is the easy way for students to journal their thought online and add all their digital content in one place. Reader, iGoogle, Bookmarks, YouTube, Picasa, Books, and more give the classroom all the tools necessary for 21st century learning and beyond, all FREE!
