For the last few weeks we've been discussing How To Be a 21st Century Teacher. We asked questions, gave suggestions, and encouraged you to talk to your administrator about what you're doing.
Now it's time to involve the most important ingredient in education, the students! After all, you and your administration can blog, tweet, and friend as much as you want, but if students aren't involved, what's the point?
To get us started helping, it's good to understand why teaching students about Social Media is important and what happens when you make comments on the internet. To help us with this MHertz, an Edublogger award nominee, recently wrote a great post explaining 4 good lessons on Teaching Social Media. Included in the article is a great video created by students in Mrs. Yollis's class about writing comments.
Lesson #1: Comments last forever.
Lesson #2: Don't say anything you wouldn't say to someone face-to-face.
Lesson #3: Stay focussed and stick to the topic.
Lesson #4: Don't engage bullies, report them.
