How To Make A Website

Making websites, as in truly making websites, is not for the faint of heart. There's code, editors, domains, hosting, and much more. Who wants to learn HTML anyway? There are sites like Weebly, Blogger, and Wordpress that do all the tough stuff for you!

Well, there are probably a lot of you out there that would like to learn more about the nuts and bolts of websites. You've probably used a lot of the 'Free' build-your-own sites, but just can't seem to get them to work or look exactly the way you want.

Well, the guys at Lifehacker.com have created a series of helpful videos called, How To Make a Website: The Complete Beginners Guide. They include 5 very easy to follow videos that take you from the very beginnings of code writing up to choosing your host and launching! Videos include;

1. Part 1: Understanding and Writing HTML
2. Styling and CSS
3. A Site From Start To Finish
4. Choosing a Host and Launching
5. Additional Resources

If you'd like the text of the lessons, they can be downloaded as a PDF here.

In CATCHsystem we emphasize Sites, not only for knowing the basics of how to use, browse and contribute to them, but because teachers and students should be able to create their own. Teachers can use these guides to challenge students to create their own, made from scratch websites, parents can work with their tech savvy kids to encourage their interest, and others can use this for their own knowledge and understanding of the web.
