Teachers have students that read on many different levels. In particular, the elementary and middle school ages have the most variability. In a classroom where the teacher is interested in students becoming more self-regulated, a new Google search feature allows students of all reading levels to find results appropriate for them.
Follow these steps to find specific search results to a particular reading level:
1. On the search page, click the Advanced Search below the search box.
2. Underneath the 'Need more tools?' section and next to 'Reading Level,' select the appropriate level; basic, intermediate, or advanced.
3. At any point, click the X in the right corner to go back to see all the results again.
In an elementary school setting, a teacher could select basic for all students searching for information through Google. A middle school teacher may use the intermediate setting for scaffolding learning, and a high school teacher challenging students may ask to set the advanced setting for higher order thinking skills.
Any way you slice it, these settings have the potential to customize searches for each student in a classroom.
