Favorite Breakfasts

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Why shouldn't it also be a favorite part of the day?

In the morning, after the dog and I go for slow walk, then read the Bible and work for an hour or so, my son and I usually have breakfast together after Mom leaves for work. He has a banana with peanut butter and I have one of my two favorites:

Banana and peanut butter milk smoothie, or
Kashi cereal with cinnamon, honey, almonds, walnuts, and frozen blueberries

My wife and I buy lots of bananas, half of which we freeze. My son eats the ones that are left out and the frozen ones I put in the smoothie. What makes this so good is the frozen banana. After putting about 8 oz. of milk and one spoon full of peanut butter in the blender, along with the banana, it blends to an almost milkshake like consistency. It's great.

The blueberries on the cereal are also frozen because we typically pick a bunch in the spring and freeze most of them. Kashi cereal is great because it's mostly organic and full of protein and fiber. Autumn Wheat is what I use most often. We buy bulk bags of almonds and walnuts and a big container of Cinnamon from Sam's Club.

We buy honey from local Farmer's Markets and look for the one that is made closest to where we live. The honey adds a great sweetness to the cereal and helps with allergies.

I'm not a nutritionist so I can't tell about each ingredient and everything they're good for, but I can tell you switching back and forth between these two breakfasts helps me to feel good. I look forward to eating in the morning (also because of the company I have while I eat- my son is awesome and we spend quality time together) and neither breakfast makes me feel overly full.

Feel free to change around and experiment with these 'recipes.' I haven't tried it, but you could exchange frozen bananas for strawberries or razberries (or any berries might do). You could mix and match different nuts on the cereal or also switch the banana out for other fruit. You could come up with just about anything, these two are just a start.

Breakfast is very important and it should start out with something you like! I hope this at least inspires you to create your own breakfast, and routine.
