It's often said that kids have more fun playing with the box than the toy inside of it.
We took this into consideration and bought him a turtle shaped trash can with a moving lid that he likes to push. He loved it, along with the balloons.
His birthday was a small celebration, but it was also a big deal. Grandpa spent a long time making cake, Grandma couldn't wait to give him his first Radio Flyer red wagon, Mom has been excited to have him wake up from his nap on the big day to see the balloons, cake, and gifts out for him, and Dad looked forward to getting lots of pictures of all it happening.
The celebration was small, but it was a big deal. My son smiled the whole time, and it was difficult to see who had a better time the big kids or my son.
There are so many other things that are small, but make a big difference. We often don't think about them because they're always there, but they make a difference, none the less.
Things like a beautiful sunrise, a gentle dew on a field of grass, a smile, a kind gesture, a hug when you really need it, a good conversation where time fades away, a laugh, a cry, an unexpected gift, a helping hand, or a simple "good job."
